I was born in Guandong (Canton), China. I left China for Hong Kong where I began my early artistic training studying Chinese painting and calligraphy with prominent Chinese artists. Later, I moved to my new homeland, Canada. My art has evolved since then. Continually searching for ways to express my Chinese and Canadian cultural heritage, my works incorporate both oriental and western techniques, styles and philosophy. I am guided by the gestures of Chinese calligraphy and inspired by music, sounds or shapes. Using the different tones of ink and the simplicity of landscapes combined with Canadian symbols, my art shows styles of old and new. My goal is to harmonize the eastern and the western arts to define a genre that expresses oneís identity. My exploration in developing my art has included Canadian aboriginal art - the art that represents native Canada. As a result, some of my works have aboriginal techniques, symbols and images while retaining the media of my early traditional artistic training - rice paper and ink, to express these new ideas. I hope to continue my exploration of Canadian symbols, traditions and images which will allow me to unify the East with the West. I hope to promote a new genre of art which reflects the multiculturalism of Canada.
