Thomas Lax graduated with a Visual Arts Diploma from the Collegiate Institute of Creative Arts in Brno, the Czech Republic in 1968 and received his honours BA & MFA Degree from the York University in Toronto, Canada in 1974 and 1976. Over the years he presented numerous domestic and international solo and group exhibitions. His work received awards and honorable mentions at the Edition 1 & the Ninth Annual Great Canadian Printmaking Competitions in Toronto, the Alberta Artists Association Exhibition in Lethbridge and the Printed Matter Exhibition at the Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada. In 1993 he received a Doctorate Award for Creativity and Achievements in the Visual Arts from the Masaryk’s Academy of Arts in Prague in the Czech Republic and in 1999 he was elected into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in Toronto. His work is a part of many domestic and international collections (the Czech National Gallery, Prague, Czech Republic; National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, Canada; Museum of Fine Arts Ostrava, Ostrava, Czech Republic; Chicago Board of Trade, Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.; Ford Motor Company, Detroit, U.S.A.; New Reformed Art Centre, Aalst, Belgium; Glenbow Museum, Calgary, Alberta, Canada and etc.). He is an Honorable External Professor at the University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic and Full Time Instructor at the Alberta College of Art & Design in Calgary.
